Tips on measuring:

Measure the chest with a shirt on under the arms
Loosen the tape measure as you would like the vest fit to allow for movement and growth.
Measure from the middle of the shoulder to the waist for the desired length.

For example: If you measure you child around the chest with the tape measure snugly against their chest then loosen the tape measure 3 or 4 inches because that is how you want the vest to fit. You do not want the vest skintight. If your child plans to wear the vest for a few years you might add another 2 to 3 inches on to allow for growth.
